Hayuu Seeroo — Author

Hayuu Kamaal Seeroo is an eleven-year-old student author who lives in Blaine, Minnesota. Throughout his life, Hayuu has always been passionately interested in reading. He started reading at age three, and by the time he reached kindergarten, he began reading chapter books and has never stopped since. He has read Dog Man, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Big Nate—the classics for his age. He loves to read genres such as adventure, thriller, and mystery, and the stories he's read inspired him to write his own. Some of his favorites include City Spies, Greystone Secrets, and Jack Blank. As he begins middle school, he hopes to find time to work on more books and to continue his writing career.

Hayuu Seeroo first conceived the idea of writing a novel in fourth grade while crafting a fictional narrative in his ELA class. The story was lengthy, nearly 2,000 words, which was considered long for a narrative at the time. Nonetheless, Hayuu still yearned to create a longer story. A week after completing the essay, he opened a new document and began writing his story. He tried to make the story as perfect as possible, which is why he only ended up with one page that day. Faced with uncertainty about how to proceed, Hayuu encountered early writer's block. It would be two months before he revisited the document.

In mid-June 2023, during vacation, Hayuu brought his laptop to write about the trip. However, after several days, the writing grew tedious. As the vacation stretched on for forty-five days and became uneventful, Hayuu abandoned the travel narrative. Scrolling through old documents, he rediscovered the one-page story. Disappointed with his progress, he decided to start anew with a more engaging plot. That's when his fingers seemed to move uncontrollably across the keyboard, and by the end of the day, he had completed nine pages. From there, Hayuu gained momentum and began writing more each day. Although he occasionally faced minor sessions of writer's block, he persisted and ultimately finished the book.

Early Work

The fourth-grade narrative

A fictional narrative written for ELA class. The story was lengthy — nearly 2,000 words, which was considered long for a narrative at the time — and it sparked the idea of writing a novel.

The one-page story

A week after completing the essay, Hayuu opened a new document and began writing his story. He tried to make it as perfect as possible, which is why he only ended up with one page that day. Two months later, that single page became the start of Agent Ace.

The travel narrative

During a forty-five-day vacation in mid-June 2023, Hayuu brought his laptop to write about the trip. As the writing grew tedious, he abandoned the travel narrative — and rediscovered the one-page story instead.
